@mudgeelight I'm pretty sure that it is possible to configure a Mastodon instance to be insular. My instance runs on a DigitalOcean droplet that I use for other things as well for $20/month(cheaper exists).

@daniel that might be a way to do it.

I know you can block other servers, can you have parent/child or managed account types (e.g. follower gatekeeping by an adult)? And can you prevent specific users from posting publicly?

Also, If the uncles/grandparents could still follow and interact with stuff they were interested in, it might be a bridge to the wider fediverse

@mudgeelight That seems like the sanest way to introduce kids to the benefits of social media while shielding them from the stuff they're not ready for. Sadly, I looked through the user options and that functionality is absent, though it would probably be trivial to implement. Let's both poke around and see what we can come up with this week.
