@retiredguru@social.linux.pizza I wish I could move my department to FreeCAD or something like it. I hate Autodesk with a passion, but it is basically industry standard. There are some programs that use IntelliCAD like Carlson. I really like those guys and their software is so much better, plus you can actually own it. Will be trying to move to them next year. We probably spend $21k in Autodesk licenses annually, would throw half that at FreeCAD if they could improve.
I still have a warm place in my heart for FreeCAD, and I think that for individuals and hobbyists, it can do the job. It could suffice for startups and small companies, depending on what type of design they do.
Unfortunately, for many fields (such as the one I work in), FreeCAD isn't there yet.
Regarding AutoCAD alternatives, look up Bricscad. It may be the best of the lot. They even have a version (Platinum I think) that does parametric modeling.
