It is kind of crazy how over-stimulated we are in this era. I distinctly remember my childhood self having a more serene & calm state of mind. And that's saying something because as kids we're always learning, curious, playful and more aware of our surroundings.
I've been consciously trying to get back into reading in the recent past...in a way to combat this feeling to some extent (finished The seven deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle this week, wonderful book btw) 😊
I want to put it into more words. Has anyone reading also observed this in the past?

@pheonix Usually books, mostly fiction, seems to work. Some audio books are narrated so well that they are improvements. Social situations, dialogue, and everything was a lot different before modern “convenience”.
@daniel going a bit tangent to your observation, I've had this stupid theory for years: Authors of the "back then" era, even ones focused on fictional genres had a different way of perceiving the world, dictated simply by happenstance.
In contrast, one born in late 80s or 90s, may or may not use or even allude to modern conveniences in their work at all, but the simple timeline in which they grew up subtly in, guides their way of thinking, assumptions, world building, social dynamics. It is never in-the-face either.
Now there are obviously exceptions to this, and this is still an untested, unverified theory but I wanted to share it with someone either way.
