Text messaging (as SMS, MMS, or RCS) is so cringe to me.
Gotta have a phone with an active phone number. Phone has to be on to work on other devices. Never change your phone number. Risk of losing messages when switching phones. Sometimes you never know if the message was actually sent. Competitor devices don't play nice together on how they send/receive messages.

Matrix- only needs an email account. Don't even need an active phone.
