Alright, running some more encodes today, trying to figure out if I can make h265 viable.
I turned on hardware encoding, and I'm getting 300 frames per second.
Okay, so firefox doesn't support 265. Unsurprising.
It looks like everything supports vp9 though? So uhh, let me try that.
vp9 has to be So Much Bigger than av1 or h265 to get equivalent quality. More than double the size.
It has wider support. It's less computationally expensive to decode than AV1. It encodes faster than AV1, but not as fast as h265 (and certainly not as fast as h254.)
So I guess I need to try 264 now too.
Well, not now, 10 minutes from now when this encode finishes.
Can someone with an iphone tell me if this file will play back in browser on ios?
