@jens @rl_dane @alcinnz somewhere in my loft I have a stack of minidisks that have an old work colleagues full collection of 1930's jazz 78's he collected as a young man, to this day I have never listened to them, I often wonder what is on them...

Oh man, do you have a player? Sounds like that would be a fun discovery.

@rl_dane @Vonskinnback @alcinnz @jens Where there ever any mini Blu-ray Discs? I recently put around 30 minutes of audio on a 3.5” floppy using opus for encoding. Curious, I did the math for a regular Blu-ray. About a year’s worth of continuous audio! 1 TB micro-sd? Around 42 years…

@daniel @Vonskinnback @alcinnz @jens

Dude, that's an astounding amount of audio for a floppy! You could probably get more with SPEEX, if it's not actually music. Wait, 6.4 kilobits, or thereabouts? DANG

I don't remember seeing any mini blu-rays, but maybe someone makes them? Does anyone still make burnable optical media? :o

I remember in the 90s trying to find ways of fitting more audio onto a floppy. I reasoned that with compression and 1-bit audio, you could get maybe 15 minutes onto a floppy, but dang, it'd be crunchy. XD

@rl_dane @Vonskinnback @alcinnz @jens
It IS crunchy, but the media and topic had a very Terminator feel about it. From The Functional Melancholic.
