@multilingualchurch
What are you running on your computer? Windows?
@multilingualchurch @Big_Diggity I’m going to attempt to install DaVinci Resolve on a Linux machine soon, I’ll let you know how that goes.
@multilingualchurch @daniel @Big_Diggity Zoom (video conferencing?) works on Linux.
@royal @daniel @Big_Diggity Excellent. I take it anything run in a Web browser will work fine too?
@multilingualchurch @daniel @Big_Diggity nowadays, almost always. Most Linux versions come with Firefox, but you can always install Chrome or Vivaldi too.
@royal
Vivaldi is my go to browser. It will run anything Chrome will.
If you want to get crazy with it, you can even install something called Wine and it will run most Windows applications. And then you can install something called Waydroid and install Android apps on your Linux machine. Just make sure that your operating system that you choose is compatible.
@Big_Diggity @royal @daniel Most remote interpreting software runs in Chrome nowadays so it seems like it'll work. Does Brave work on Linux?
@multilingualchurch
It sure does!
@royal @daniel
@Big_Diggity @royal @daniel All I'd need to do is figure out automated backups. For home, I can grab a Pi 5 and make a cheap NAS. I'm not sure what to go with for cloud storage. UK/EU-based would be a requirement.
@multilingualchurch
Are you asking about self hosting cloud storage at your house using a Pi5?
@Big_Diggity @royal @daniel Not so much. I was wondering if there are any cloud providers worth looking at as another layer in addition to having a system at home.
@multilingualchurch
I hear a lot of people recommend Proton Drive. https://proton.me/l/cloud-storage-pfm-fapp
@Big_Diggity @royal @daniel Hmm. Thanks. I'll look it up.
@multilingualchurch
It's been a while since I've used Mega since I self-hosted my own cloud, but I remember it being easy to use. https://mega.io/
And then, if you're tech savvy enough to use object storage (S3 Storage) I would recommend Wasabi. We use Wasabi for There's Life media and I use it as an external drive in my personal Nextcloud.
@royal @daniel
@Big_Diggity @royal @daniel Interesting. I never know how savvy I am until I try.
@daniel @Big_Diggity Thank you! I'm currently running Hitfilm but I've heard lots of good things about DaVinci Resolve. Does Zoom work on Linux?
