2347. Dependency

One of my favorite underrated movies, and in light of recent events maybe a little appropriate. When I used to hang out with my grandfather as a kid doing Ham radio, he really taught me the value in communication. Nowadays we take it for granted, Fediverse included.

FYI, Paul Harrell has a great YouTube channel if you want to educate yourself on firearms.

Just woke up from a crazy dream where @Gargron had set up a James Hallidayesque competition on the Fediverse and me and the friends were having a great time...then Heidi woke me up🙂

I used to be avid reader, but I feel like the web has ruined my ability to concentrate over the years. I decided to disconnect today and try to get into #books again.

"The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man's abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace.”
Henry David Thoreau, Walden

“However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The fault-finder will find faults even in paradise. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse."

@Citizenzibb@fosstodon.org I think he did design and launch some satellites one episode...

@Citizenzibb@fosstodon.org Maybe our good friend Elon can beat them back a little with Starlink! People like him are our best hope of getting out of this mess.

@jonah One thing I liked a lot about Ronald Reagan was that he tried to educate himself and tested his beliefs before just spouting them off. Regardless of where you stand on his other policies, I think that was a good one.

@Citizenzibb@fosstodon.org I've been backing Purism and Librem 5 for a while now. Not sure if it will amount to much, but dang we NEED some options in the mobile space. It is a high barrier of entry space and I think they're doing as good of job as can be expected for their size.

Here we are, another day passed, another day spoon fed world views from the media that is intended to make us feel foolish, or selfish, or helpless, or indebted, or trapped in some other bondage. Jesus gives us liberty to follow His will and proclaim His gospel and do His work. Though we hear the indoctrination day and after day, over and over again, until it somehow sounds right and proper in the world, we need to continually remain in the Word to drown out the world views, and fill our heads and hearts with what the Lord declares for us. Anything less, and we are at the mercy of the world and those who would imprison our thoughts and ideals.

@Citizenzibb@fosstodon.org I think you're echoing the concerns of pretty much anyyone who is paying attention. It is maddening, probably deliberate, but maybe not. Large organizations end up doing stupid things almost always. Let me know if you find something else that you like.

I am super frustrated.with this steaming pile of turd software that MS calls windows 10. These auto updates always hit at the wrong time, when one is actually tring to do work, and it always breaks something. I am trying to add a pc to a domain. An update that takes 30 min to install, refuses to let me do anything until it reboots. I am an hour and a half from home and stuck $#&^%*?@ with this so the customer can get right to work in the morning with little to no interruption. It is now 5:05pm..

From Justin Shaista.

When did the desires/wants/needs of the few DOMINATE the many?

Let’s take peanut allergies.

One kid at our school had an allergy and the entire school had to stop eating peanut butter.

1 kid vs 1000 kids

Cheap and nutritious, and universally loved by children, tons of poor families were screwed. What else could they feed their kids?

Enter, a brand new line of fake nut butters that were expensive and kids hated. (Ours wouldn’t eat them at all). Parents pulling out their hair.

REPEATED announcements, notes, reminders, disciplining 1000 kids, 2000 adults, for 1 nut allergy.

If your kid is THAT allergic, he shouldn’t fucking ever leave the house. Because guess what?

The subway, buses, trains, restaurants, airplanes, the rest of society isn’t nut free.

IT’S FUCKING BULLYING.

Meanwhile 1 boy puts on a dress and 500 girls can’t pee.

When did this happen? When did the need of one person completely over take every one else’s needs?

@Citizenzibb@fosstodon.org I hope when people look back on the last 20 years that they are reminded of this truth:
"You get what you pay for."
So many of the evils of the day are powered by the cost of "free".
$0.01/month from every internet user could build the best software the world has ever known.
