I don't take this stuff too seriously, but this made me lol!

@dallin@librem.one People talk about how big of a deal a woman/black President or VP would be, but a real miracle would be any person from a third party.

@maxamillion @Citizenzibb@fosstodon.org What do you think the odds are that I can get my 15yo daughter and her friends to get this stuff and care?

@b2e@theres.life Once they either own or can put enough pressure on hosting companies it's game over, unless you want mesh/sneaker nets...pretty much no one has time or understanding for that.

I have no idea if I'm getting a good deal yet, but thought the risk might be worth it. I will update on my findings. How crazy am I?

@Citizenzibb@fosstodon.org @maxamillion You're not wrong. I think the devices you want are coming or can be MacGyver'ed together. The real problem are the ecosystems that have become pervasive throughout society and the world. Even if we get the devices we want, it will be, "Play by our rules or you get cut off" from the vast majority of the net and businesses who are all in on these ecosystems. It's what is happening with these cashless businesses and credit card companies. My money is no good?

@maxamillion a Linux tablet with enough horsepower could do a lot, especially if connecting it to keyboards and monitors was easy. Still would want a NAS of some kind.

2347. Dependency

One of my favorite underrated movies, and in light of recent events maybe a little appropriate. When I used to hang out with my grandfather as a kid doing Ham radio, he really taught me the value in communication. Nowadays we take it for granted, Fediverse included.

FYI, Paul Harrell has a great YouTube channel if you want to educate yourself on firearms.

Just woke up from a crazy dream where @Gargron had set up a James Hallidayesque competition on the Fediverse and me and the friends were having a great time...then Heidi woke me up🙂

I used to be avid reader, but I feel like the web has ruined my ability to concentrate over the years. I decided to disconnect today and try to get into #books again.

"The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man's abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace.”
Henry David Thoreau, Walden

“However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks poorest when you are richest. The fault-finder will find faults even in paradise. Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse."
