@ajroach42 The reason I strongly consider them is mostly the community and their prevalence. I think I'll be able to find one in 50 years.

@ajroach42 I think one significant goalpost was reached when peripherals got better than human senses could discern. Another was the maturity of software RAID systems. Yet another, was the plateauing of audio/video codecs. One of the biggest hurdles for me is the reliance of smart phones to capture recordings. They are too convenient and have amazing quality. Getting the iPhone to talk to Linux is always a PITA. If Linux smartphones take off, I have a hard time figuring out what else I need.

@ajroach42 I've been reading through your goal of a multi-decade computer and it echos a lot of thoughts I've had. I'm building a house this spring and want to put in a whole home system that will hopefully be as future-proof as reasonably possible. It is a hard goal. My gut tells me that you're a little on the primitive end with your use cases, but not by much. I think things got good enough around 2010 on the hardware/software end. Any reason you would shy away from Raspberry Pi?

@lo My wife is the only girl and has 5 brothers. They're good guys, but I don't think she has what you have. Enjoy them! It would have been nice to have had a sister.

@Floppy We didn't do it for the lockdown, but here in the US we all went outside and howled like wolves at 8pm daily to show support for healthcare workers.

@kelbot That is nerdgasm material. Good work! It doesn't work in tty console does it?

@lo What do you use for a wine opener? Was going to get something nicer than the old design, but reviews say most everything falls apart within a year or two.

@lo The wild pigs are actually pretty good to eat, but it depends a bit on what they are eating.I think when people working at the slaughterhouses got covid, they killed off a lot of livestock for some $ reasons and pork hasn't been around as much since.

Just cooked red wheat berries for the first time. It is crazy how good they are, yet how uncommon it is to eat them in US. I've never had wheat berries and I prefer them to rice.

1 part(volume) berries to 3 parts water, add a little salt, 35 min high pressure instant pot. Drain, add a little Yum Yum sauce and turmeric. Not bad.

@lo I haven't been able to find pork belly at the store since last March. So underrated or overlooked by many here.

@Garrett Remember that time when you won that debate by writing Nintendo Power and proving me wrong?

@lo I do want updates on your tiny house btw. We have tons of wilderness here and you can walk around for days alone, but no way could I put up a legal structure. Better to ask for forgiveness?
