For most of recent history, up until about 60 years ago, the act of creation was just a part of life. Everyone sang or played an instrument or wrote or performed or danced or Something.
But recording technology turned creative output in to a path to fortune and fame. Suddenly, if you weren't exceptional, then why were you trying at all?
This concept is, of course, bullshit.
@neauoire And coat hangers. It is pretty sturdy and has a pleasant sound.
After about 3 weeks of sewing, and lots of help from our friends, we've built a dodger from scrap canvas and vinyl we had onboard.
It will keep the rain and spray out of the companionway for the foreseeable future.
Mission successful! 🥳
When driving in snow, it is a good idea to occasionally give the wheel a little wiggle or tap the brakes when you’re in a safe spot. This test gives you an idea of how in control you are and how responsive the vehicle is(in the current conditions). It reminds you of the limits of your control so that you can account for them. Likewise, you can test yourself by temporarily abstaining from good things like food, sex, entertainment, etc. Then you will know if these things serve you or not.
Holy 🤯
If you're a parent or grandparent you need to watch this ENTIRE episode.
Love or hate Glenn Beck, he does some of the best deep dives.

@neauoire My grandmother and I built one of these when I was 10 and it turned out really well. "You tell me how to put it together and how it works and I'll do the cutting.", she said. What a wave of good memories! I'll see if I can get a picture tomorrow.
@atyh OK, Hyperbola BSD is pretty cool, have I been living under a rock?
@atyh I’ve never heard of Hyperbola BSD, but I will look into it now. I’ve had this feeling about Linux since systemd took root almost everywhere. The Kernel just keeps growing and growing too. Do you really think it is beyond salvation? I just don’t know.
@futzle I just get curious about how greatness comes to be. Sometimes it just barely happens like a fluke, but most times there are a series of steps. I wasn't around when Graduate formed, but I have actually heard Elvis Should Play Ska. @mary commented at how modern it sounds with a dash of Devil went down to Georgia. I like the direction the UK went with music in the late 70's/early 80's. They didn't have the cultural division of rock/disco/electronic music and they kinda coexisted maybe.
@futzle You got me down the Graduate rabbit hole now.
