@chiasm I read the first book and the Cultural Revolution stuff was the most interesting part to me because I knew so little about it. Didn’t feel compelled to read the rest.

The Wonka movie wasn't bad for a fun family movie. Chalamet was a good cast for a young Wilder and he made a memorable performance. The plot seemed devoid of any social agenda, which was refreshing, and I can even remember a few lines from some of the songs. Almost every musical lately has had such bad, forgettable, music.

I am so grateful for modern conveniences. I often think about how difficult it would be raising a kid with a disability without them. In times past folks would send their kids off to asylums and I can understand that choice, especially if they had lots of other kids to consider. Thankfully now, if Heidi makes a mess, I can just shower her off, throw some things in the washer, etc...Several of my blind friends have had their lives improved so much by technology. Use these amazing tools wisely!

@Jo_PrayerN_actionCenter it is a simple text to speech program. If the computer tells her that it’s time to go to bed, then it must be true!😂

@Big_Diggity A text to speech engine that I use in the terminal.

I just used espeak to convince my 4YO that it is bed time…no protests or anything!😂

@mkwadee Ah, visiting Kew was one of the activities that we had planned but skipped on our 2018 trip. The Mrs was quite pregnant and we had to make some concessions. Next time Kew Gardens, next time…

Sometimes I look up random old-style websites that aren’t loaded with ads and JavaScript. This one was the most interesting today:

@dancinyogi When we were dating, @mary was caring for her elderly grandfather who had to move in. There was plenty of $ to send him to a home, but she (and her mother) took care of him as long as she was able. That spoke volumes to me about her character.

I just made a leasing inquiry...why not?

I'm leaning towards a 501c. There would be products/services but it would be cool to have volunteers with a community supported feel. Maybe @ajroach42 can offer some insight?

@marcosgutierrez @Big_Diggity You know, that is cool and I wouldn't have considered it. There are a lot of engineering folks who kinda hate the status quo but don't know about free alternatives. If they had a place to learn about workflows and provide feedback/funding to developers, they might be able to come out ahead without proprietary software.

@Big_Diggity I'm mildly entertaining the idea. I was at the mall tonight and thought, "What if I put a Linux store right next to the Apple store?" Things I would do:
-Sell new computers with free OS's
-Convert/update/repair computers
-Have displays for people to demo
-A counter of "# of computers liberated!"
-A coffee/lounge/forum corner
-Classes for education
-A few museum pieces
-Great quotes all over
-Plushies of Tux, Puffy, etc.
Give me some more ideas!

If I opened a brick and mortar freedom focused computer store at the mall (think Linux, BSD, System76, Purism, Pine64, etc.), what would you want to see and what would make it worthwhile to shop there?
