I and the family made a trip across the country to celebrate my mom’s retirement! Tomorrow is her last day.

For most of recent history, up until about 60 years ago, the act of creation was just a part of life. Everyone sang or played an instrument or wrote or performed or danced or Something.

But recording technology turned creative output in to a path to fortune and fame. Suddenly, if you weren't exceptional, then why were you trying at all?

This concept is, of course, bullshit.

After about 3 weeks of sewing, and lots of help from our friends, we've built a dodger from scrap canvas and vinyl we had onboard.

It will keep the rain and spray out of the companionway for the foreseeable future.

Mission successful! 🥳

When driving in snow, it is a good idea to occasionally give the wheel a little wiggle or tap the brakes when you’re in a safe spot. This test gives you an idea of how in control you are and how responsive the vehicle is(in the current conditions). It reminds you of the limits of your control so that you can account for them. Likewise, you can test yourself by temporarily abstaining from good things like food, sex, entertainment, etc. Then you will know if these things serve you or not.

Increasingly, one of the rarest things on the internet is spaces/channels/networks which arent ideological echo chambers. Many seem interested in only intereacting with people who think like them, talk like them, walk like them, and agree.
Which is why I love the federation concept. I can follow and interact with people who have a wide variety of perspectives. Some of whom exist within echo chambers. Its awesome, and quite interesting.
I look for instances which have different ideological bents, and follow people from those whose posts display a certain intelligence and thoughtfulness, because I am interested in what they have to say.
In doing this, Ive started to see a truth that some in the echo chambers would rather not hear, but that I can see plainly coming across my feed.... people have more in common with each other than they think. To a suprising degree. And this massive push of "othering" that weve seen in recent times is, in many cases, based on illusion.
Federation has also shown me that not everything has to be one way. Communities with seemingly incompatible ideologies can exist along side each other in relative peace. Its not until you centralize everything, and try to force everyone into one way of being and thinking that the conflict begins.

IMO, the most important project in the open source operating system world right now is Hyperbola BSD. Why? Because they have seen the writing on the wall, and understand what many dont... the slow, intentional, corporate takeover of Linux is already well underway. And at some point, the work they are doing will provide the foundation for the tipping point which will occur, and the resulting massive shift away from the Linux Kernel that will eventually come.

My daughter's team won a trail race today at her horse riding club.

Not a major competition, or anything, but a great time with her pony-loving friends, riding through NZ bush, in the rain.

Plus a ribbon to go along with it all!

Sierra is in light blue in the centre of the photo.

I run A/V at my church and it is such a blessing to continually work out the bugs and do rehearsals with all of the volunteers. They are brothers and sisters(some literally), and it is such a sweet time watching their little kids run around while everyone pours out their highest and best. Every week feels like I’m witnessing some monumental part of history. It is such a privilege to be part of this!

Happy Easter! He is risen!
