Politics discussion

@Gina I think women in many professions have to bring more to the table than their male peers. I see politics in the US to still be there somewhat. The women you do see often have to be more extreme in their views to get elected and in a way that doesn't help make them relatable to many as a representative.

@Gina I think we're ready for a female president, but admittedly the bar would have to be higher than for a man; however, that is still pretty low if you've been paying attention. I would rather the first female president be elected in, rather than take over from VP. That seems like it would detract a bit from it all.

There was once a vote between Jesus and Barabbas. Jesus lost. Thank goodness that humankind does not have the final say in the matter of its destiny. If we had our way, we would find ourselves in ruin every time. Thank God for His kindness and grace. Let's not lean on our own understanding.

I would not willingly hand over the authority to close and open churches to the civil government even if ebola was sweeping our land and bodies were stacked high in the streets.

@sheogorath There's a lot of media that would have been lost if not for pirate fans. I copy all my physical media to NAS. I have boxes of DVDs that stay out of sight in storage. Copyright laws have been perverted and the goalpost is always changing. Always let your conscience be your guide.

First Sunday back inside, hope I can keep everything working!

Friendly reminder: "X as a service" is just a misleading corporate euphemism for "pay forever for not owning it".

"Software as a service" actually means "pay forever for not owning the software".

"Games as a service" actually means "pay forever for not owning games".

"Infrastructure as a service" actually means "pay forever for not owning the hardware".

And so on.

There is no "cloud", it's just other people's computers

@Citizenzibb@fosstodon.org Think I'll watch Outland tonight, one of his lesser appreciated, yet good movies.

@dallin@librem.one How's that new computer working out?

@normand @retiredguru@social.linux.pizza I'll take another look at FreeCAD. I do use MeshLab almost daily. I miss the good documentation back in those days. I cut my teeth on GW-BASIC and messed around with AutoCAD 2.5 in the early 90's. I didn't have access to newer machines, and in a way I'm thankful. I got into the VRML craze. Good times! I wish I could explain to my 15 YO daughter how exciting of a time it was and how fast things changed.

@normand @retiredguru@social.linux.pizza I would love to help out with a project like that, but I lack the know-how or even an understanding of how to get the know-how. Good coding is one of the hardest skills to attain I think, and what prevents free software from really being adopted. Most volunteer work has levels of entry so that anyone who wants to help can. Most of the culture around computers has never been like this, maybe because the easy things get automated? It makes for a high barrier of entry.

I'm still using OpenBSD from time to time and appreciating the thought put into it. There are several solutions for forwarding sound with X11, but I was curious if any of you folks have one that you prefer?
