Think I’m going to take the saw on a stroll, it needs a nap.

@atyh People like John Ochsendorf and the Block Research Group have done some nice work trying to get compression vaulted structures back on people's radar. Guastavino was one of the greats with that technology.

@atyh Yeah, it’s the rebar. Take a look at Hashima Island for how not to do it. If you use the right concrete mix and get the proper coverage on the reinforcement, modern structures can last a really long time. Sometimes people do get it right and in a thousand years folks will be talking about how well we built stuff. Survivor’s bias. It’s like no one thinks about building things to last or to be efficiently recycled. Worst of both worlds.

@ajroach42 Meh, as long as you're not venting it. Imagining a steampunk cow powered lifting gas station.

@ajroach42 Methane/Natural Gas. Still flammable, but much easier to store without t leaks and it's plentiful.

@BrentToderian That's pretty cool. I'm glad it works there, but I doubt the results would be similar in Colorado. This is a local organization that my church supports and has a good success rate. It is expensive(both time and $) to get people back on their feet, but totally worthwhile.

I wish our taxes were allocated to programs proven to be successful.

@UncleDuke1969 How unfortunate. Mesa has settled into her management role nicely.😂

Ok, got it working…that was tough.

~$ sudo apt install inetutils-talk inetutils-talkd inetutils-inetd

remove the "#<off>#" in front of the "talk dgram..." line in the /etc/inetd,conf file.

~$ sudo mv /bin/inetutils-talk /bin/talk

~$ sudo /etc/init.d/inetutils-inetd restart

Ta'Da, working, at least on the same box.

Thought it would be fun to get the old talk program working in Linux…no luck. It really shouldn’t be that hard. The live typing feature was memorable.

We didn't forget you John. Real hit at parties that one.😂

Have any of you folks realized/figured out a fix for USB3.0 in Linux? It is incredibly slow.
Last night's data transfer:
"received 61.1G stream in 37893 seconds (1.65M/sec)"
I think I would have been better off with USB2.0.

@atyh That and the blanketing of codes over common sense. Must have ~$20k for septic installation, but 100 cows just crapping on top of it A-OK!

My fairly new desktop keeps cutting off, not sure what's up. It's not overheating. Scrolling through a specific video file will do it. Trying to zfs send/receive to a USB flash drive did it a couple of times. Happened while booted on a live disk too. A couple times seemingly randomly. Weird that another desktop died this week too. I don't think Heidi's been pouring chocolate milk in my cases...

@atyh Amen. When things like that come up, don't be shy about asking for prayer. I, and a lot of others, naturally want to do what we can. Is there anything we can do that has more potential than prayer? So glad he's home and yes, miracles are real.
